While up in the air, Le would sometimes have to deal with being hit by enemy fire. One time after his plane was hit, one of the engines began to malfunction, forcing him to land the plane with only one operating engine. That was probably the most scared he ever was during the war. As the north began to invade the south after the US pulled out of the war, he fled to the United States and had to leave his entire family behind in the process. (6:05)

After the war came to an end in Vietnam, Henry Le made it safely over to the United States, with help from a sponsor. From there he attended flight school again but this time for the Navy, and ended up landing a job in Subic Bay. Later on, he was involved with Operation Desert Shield for a brief period of time. Eventually, he was able to return back to Vietnam to see his family, (6:28)

In light of the media and political coverage of the Vietnam war, Le doesn't fully believe that the United States handled the situation correctly. He gives his reflections of what was important to him throughout the war, and what we should have done differently while it was still going on. (4:57)

He was from a small, coal mining village in Pennsylvania. When Henry Miner was on the way to basic training, it began to get hot on the train with blacked out windows. Was it Texas? Mississippi? It was an eventful trip across the Atlantic for Henry Miner, with depth charges and rough seas making it interesting. That was nothing compared to the disaster awaiting many of the men in his division when they crossed the English Channel. He missed that event, but the deadly winter weather was waiting for him. He came close to having his legs amputated, but Henry Miner managed to avoid that and was on his way back to the States to recover. Faced with factory work or a coal mine in his home town, he decided to work for the government again in a less dangerous job than infantry rifleman. Henry Newinn

Originally from North Vietnam, Henry Newinn grew up near Ho Chi Minh City. At the start of the greater Vietnam conflict, Newinn and his family fled to the south to escape communist regime. Eventually, the French pulled out of the fight and the United States came to aid the people left behind. When Newinn got involved in the war effort, his first job was reconnaissance patrol near the Cambodia and Vietnam border. (4:13)

After his time on reconnaissance patrol Newinn joined the Vietnam Special Forces, helping to uncover secrets and information about the enemy. At one point during his service, the Viet Cong were seen trying to ambush a US helicopter. Fortunately, the operation failed and Newinn and the other men lived to see another day. (6:52)

A typical mission for Newinn consisted of him accompanied by eight or nine other men and being dropped into enemy territory, tasked with going in stealth mode to gain any information about the North Vietnamese Army. It wasn't long until the Tet Offensive broke out and things really started to heat up between the north and south. He remembers an ambush from the Viet Cong just when they had gotten all their equipment set up after landing. (6:04)
